Water Water Everywhere.....

A leaking water heater will do a lot of damage to your home. Just ask me - I know. Ours decided to do just that this past Thursday night. I was in the newly remodeled basement watching TV. David came down around 10:15pm or so and we started watching The Tonight Show. Close to 11pm he got up and noticed the carpet was wet. We both knew something in the utility room was leaking but thought it was probably the drain for the A/C. When he opened the door the floor was covered in water and until we could get some of it cleaned up we wouldn't be able to see where it was coming from. Thank goodness for shop vac's! The water coming out from under the water heater wasn't a fast leak but it was coming out at a rate that we had to keep sucking up water every 2-3 minutes. We were finally able to get it under control enough and drained it.

The plumber arrived around 12:15 on Friday and were here until 11:20pm. But we now have a new water heater with a containment basin. That way if it ever leaks, the water won't go all over the place.

Now we have to work with the insurance company to get all or part of the carpet replaced and an area of the hardwood laminate flooring. The water that was first leaking out was kinda rusty looking and smelled bad. And to think we just had all this work done down there. Oh well - the joys of being a homeowner, right??!!
